Bruno Berle – Sem Fronteiras
Far Out Recordings / Bandcamp
Brazilian songwriter Bruno Berle continues a string of albums featuring stripped-down, “lo-fi” modern MPB. This album clicks with me in a way that his others hadn’t with “A Noite De Estrelas” being a highlight in my current driving playlist.
Tee Lopes, Sean Bialo, Andrew One – Denshaattack! (Original Game Soundtrack)
Undergames S.L. / Bandcamp
The soundtrack to one of my favorite video games of the year spanning 3+ hours of colorful, funky, energetic tunes from three great composers with additional contributors, including the Sega Sound Team. The game itself centers around performing skateboard-esque tricks as a train on rails with cell-shaded, Jet Grind Radio-inspired aesthetics in what feels like a lost Dreamcast release. The only thing missing is a song or two from Hideki Naganuma.
Eric Vallely – Air Heads Parts 1 & 2
Leaving Records
A beat tape/sound collage comprised on radio station IDs and interval signal samples in two parts, one recorded in 2020 and the other in 2026.
Foodman – HIKARIGASASHIKOMU
Hyperdub Records / Bandcamp
Japanese experimental footwork producer foodman makes his Hyperdub debut on an album my son told me to turn off in the car because it creeped him out, possibly due the inclusion of foodman’s bizarre vocals.

Text Records / Bandcamp
Four Tet brings his “wingdings” alias debut to break your Last.fm scrobbling with a surprise indecipherably-titled collection of his signature sound covering a variety of electronic genres.
Nate Smith, Kiefer, CARRTOONS, and Kenny Beats – FATHERS
Blue Note Records /
Drummer and Virginia-native Nate Smith invites an all star crew to the studio for a compact, focused record of beat-driven tracks perfect for cooling out in the end of summer.
Nicholas Payton and Butcher Brown – A Supreme Blue
Concord Jazz / Bandcamp
Trumpet player Nicholas Payton teams up with Richmond’s Butcher Brown for a selection of modern takes of classic Miles Davis and John Coltrane standards, inspired by a single unplanned session in which Payton sat in with the band to perform Coltrane’s “Acknowledgement”.
Takoda – Throne Beneath The Sky
Minaret Records / Bandcamp
Guitarist and producer takoda creates an epic four part story through jazz-fusion tunes accompanied by vocoder-filtered vocals and guests including pianist Javier Santiago, accordonist Anatole Muster, and Hyperspace Dolphin’s Nicole McCabe. The concept album is paired with a full-length live-action puppet show that can be found on YouTube.
