EXT SRC 60 / Designers Republic
For the 60th episode of EXT SRC I’m curating a soundtrack to a hypothetical sequel to WipEout (RIP Psygnosis/Studio Liverpool), a futuristic anti-gravity racing game that launched in the 32-bit era and maybe single-handedly sparked my ongoing obsession with various forms of electronic music.
The first game featured a techno-focused soundtrack mostly produced by CoLD SToRAGE, but the series also saw contributions from big names like The Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Orbital and The Future Sounds of London. The initial soundtrack pushed me to hit my local CD store’s “dance” section where I discovered drum and bass and never really looked back. So for this playlist I’m stepping a little bit out of my house and break-centric comfort zone and exploring what some recent techno artists have to offer with a sprinkle of footwork because I can’t help myself.
